Greywater, the gently used water from sinks, showers, and washing machines, can be safely and effectively treated using plant-based filtration systems. In this workshop, we will guide you through the process of designing, constructing, and maintaining a simple and efficient greywater system that utilizes plants to naturally clean the water before it is reused in your landscape.
During this program you will learn:
Understanding Gray Water: Gain a comprehensive understanding of gray water, its characteristics, and the environmental benefits of reusing this valuable resource.
Plant-Based Filtration: Explore the fascinating world of water treatment systems, how carefully selected plants, such as reeds, bulrushes and other wetland species, can filter and purify gray water through their root systems.
Design Principles: Learn the key principles and considerations for designing a successful gray water system, including site assessment, water flow management, plant selection, and system establishment.
Hands-On Demonstration: Join a hands-on, hands-on session where you'll participate in building a small-scale gray water treatment system using readily available materials. Get hands-on experience setting up your system and learn valuable tips and tricks.
Plant selection and care: Immerse yourself in the world of plant species suitable for gray water systems. Find out which plants are particularly good at absorbing nutrients and removing pollutants. Find out how to care for and maintain your green filter, ensuring its long-term effectiveness.
Whether you're an experienced gardener, environmentally conscious homeowner, or simply interested in exploring innovative solutions for sustainable water management, this workshop will equip you with the knowledge and practical skills to implement a gray water system that benefits both of your garden and of the planet.
